Hi, ive got vm 10 mb broadband standalone with paperless billing for £18 pm. Could you advise me of any offers on for 10, 20 or maybe 50 mb at the moment.
Maybe someone got a great deal from retentions recently ?

i would ring them up and see what they say, the jump to 20mbit can only be a couple of £ and it will be well worth it

Which 10Mb product do you have ? M or L ?

Its unusual to get a retention deal on standalone XL or XXL. It appears Virgin seem to think there is a lack of competition n the 20mb and 50mb market.

Isn't there ?

How far do you live from your BT exhange ?

Of course the BT Infinity rollout may eventually change that :)

Possibly but my friend has just signed up for BT Infinity and it still suffers from reduced speeds at peak time and because of distance from exchange. He gets around 35Mb when quiet and only 18Mb during peak.

To be very fair to BT, they did give him an expectation of around 18Mb so they were obviously working on a peak expectation. Previously he was only able to get less than 3Mb from BT ADSL which wasn't even enough to successfully run BT Vision.

Distance from the exchange doesn't come into it as he wouldn't be able to get 35Mb if that were a factor.

He will now be FTTC.

Oh I wouldn't take BT Infinity over VM myself but it is at least a viable alternative and may alter VM marketing and pricing. I don't doubt that it is what lead to the upstream upgrades.

I have the large 10 mb service

...then your £18 deal is good as the standard price is £20.

In terms of upgrade to a faster BB, I think you would be lucky to keep this additional £2 discount over the standard £30 for 20Mb and £38 for 50Mb.
