Hi guys,

I'm currently under the 10mb package and waiting for upgrade by my landlord, and I'm not sure why.. (lets assume the connection is being throttled), around 7.30pm in some days, the connection just went down.I can't even open google.co.uk or other UK websites.

Is it normal in this case ? I saw the traffic management table said they throttled 75% and I should still have 2.5mb...

What you're suffering from isn't throttling. Give it 30 mins and if it's still not working reboot the modem/pc/router. After that it's time to contact Virgin.

Well..... restarting the router won't help, maybe just become better for couple of minutes..
the connection only become slightly better around 11pm (get google page loaded in 10+s)... then fully recovered around 1 or 2am.

By the way I'm living in Loughborough and also having some connection problem in my last house (not the same problem). Is it because the connection here sucks?

i doubt there is a general connection problem in loughborough however there could be a problem with your specific connection ... posting your modem stats will be a starting point to getting to the bottom of it

click this (or type it in your browser) http://192.168.100.1/

click login ... use root as both user name and password and then copy and paste the stats for downstream and upstream and also the log entries

Of course the connection doesn't has any problem now since I'm posting here :P
But i think it happens 3-4 times for the last couple of weeks

Sounds like the behaviour of being on an oversubscribed UBR. In other words, too many users using the service.

We only have 4 pc in our house....I did checked the DHCP client list when the problem started and it showed only 4 of us.

I don't think 4 users are too many for a 10mb package...

It wont be the number of users in your house but what the other users connected to the same access point as you are doing.

In other words do a test connected direct to the modem. This will rule out a router problem and other users.

It could be the upstream being hammered by all your equipment

Ok..... I will try it out when this happens again
