Linksys seems to work pretty well in spite of the newer models being a bit light of on board ram.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169923 - Got one, not really tried the wireless (It's single antenna, so no Mimo, so it's N-150 with two channels used, or N-72 with one channel). Mega cheap though.

If coverage is a problem, get two and use in relay mode, plenty of info in the comments.

Until yesterday I was using the D-link DIR-655. This worked well, although it was strange that I had to flash to the last but one version of the firmware for it to work properly.

BTW, I'm now using the VM hub as I upgraded from L to XL and got it free (but had to ask for it).

I use a D-Link 655 too, no problems with it, in use for several years.

Just like to add my vote for D-Link's DIR-655 wireless router. Had it for a long time with firmware updates over the years and not had a single issue with the device at all. Rock solid in my opinion and probably the best router I have ever purchased.

I would highly recommend the Netgear WNDR3700, works great on the Virgin 50mb service. I have had this router since it as released and it's not crashed on me once yet, even with very heavy use.

Wireless coverage on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz is excellent to.

For those who have and to note to anyone thinking of getting the D-Link DIR-655. What orientation do you have the router set to? Vertical or upwards because if you set it upwards with the stand that comes inside the box. The wireless signal broadcast is far better with the router upwards than the router sitting vertically.

The 3 antennas should be as the 1st antenna standing upwards, 2nd antenna should be to the left and the 3rd antenna should be to the right. My PC is tucked away in a desk below and is now showing 4 bars instead of 1 bar after doing this! It is like I had my router like sitting vertically for the past 4 years! Yippee! I am so happy!:D

Personally, if the router can use third-party software, then its a winner. Get yourself a cheap router on the usual place, and bung on Tomato linux firmware. Ive had the same router for over 5 years now, and its perfect with cable stuff.

Most routers will use similar hardware, and im a believer that its the software thats most important.
