Hello during peak times I get still 48mb download and about 1.30mb upload but my ping goes real bad and start loosing packets and being very jittery, what could be the reason? For me ping is more important as the main reason for my net is gaming.

Everything is fine apart from the jitter and because of one persons presumption your changing?

Last year I had the same problem of the jitter only that my upload would cut down to about 30kb and literally had no way to fix it as it was oversubscription of the UBR so im scared its the same thing which would mean i'd have to change.

Bear with it for a little while they are tinkering with the network, especially upstream, at the moment. They might have shifted a lot of modems onto the channel you are on in preparation for some work.

I doubt it's due to amount of subscribers more like the few uploading alot if it is that problem.

I had same earlier in the year... All OK except Jitter and packet loss... New modem fixed it, been fine since.

They even posted me new modem, didn't send engineer...

I too was getting bad 'jitter' times. I called Virgin tech support and they've said it was upstream congestion. They opened a call and have a three week lead time on getting capacity upgraded unfortunately.

Pingtest used to give my line an 'A' rating but now most evenings it's down to 'F'.

Don't forget to check it during the day for comparison, just to make sure. You should have a decent pingtest result:

?

the more subscibers there is the more likely a few will be uploading a lot wouldnt you say?

The one good thing I expect to come of the upcoming traffic shaping is jitter should improve. As VM will be shaping upstream as well as downstream.

incidently here is mine right now. for about 2-3 weeks I had sub 3ms jitter but now its on the way up again.

in my view when its over 10ms you start to notice it. But everyone will have different sensitivity to jitter.

Up until recently, i never used to have any jitter at all, but mine is also around the 8-10ms mark on a constant basis

Yes you are right, but as we know, just because there are only a few subscribers dosen't mean less congestion, hence the reason for STM ect as the few can be the as bad as alot!
