is it just a fluke or does the browser you use affect your download speed ???

Just a fluke. I always use the London server due to being more consistant.

Yes, it can affect speed, but not normally speedtests. Do a couple of tests 10 minutes apart on each browser and then compare. One of each is a bit biased.

just tried again using the london server, firstly firefox

and then google chrome

must be a double fluke lol but just seems a bit weird

The second one is probably still cached somewhere along the route.
Try later doing chrome first and then firefox.

Having said that I just tried FF & IE and got identical results (9.86Mb/s on a 10Mb/s line).

And Chrome reported 11Mb/s inside a Virtual Machine!

Yes it can, profoundly. If happy with the service speed tests really don't matter.
