It seems clear that Virgin Media have put in some sort of filter to slow down all downloads to Rapidshare and Megaupload.

Speed tests and Blueyonder game files seem to download as normal speed for a 10Meg package.

So rather than block these site entirely they have slowed them down, they would have been as well blocking them for all the good the current download speed is!

Care to post your evidence ?

And when i say evidence i don't mean hear say or conjecture or well i think its this so it must be.

Lets face facts ***IF*** you are correct i think that VM will be up for the high jump if they are doing it without letting those companies know that there customers are being targeted, Also do you not think that by not letting there own users know they have instigated a new traffic shaping system in respect of said companies services it might just start a storm of bad press ????

Yay this old chestnut again.

Some RS Megaupload download servers are probably being pushed through the IWF kiddie porn filter due to both being constantly used as kiddie porn hosts.

Normal service will resume once these are cleansed of said filth.

An alternative is to download from an alternative source. Shouldn't be a problem, RS and Megaupload are largely used for copyright violation anyway, most other things are pretty small files so won't be subject to a big delay.

why would you prefer to d/l 'ubuntu' from RS instead of using the torrent?

Normally I would directly download it from one of the HTTP servers, I just though id run a test because im bored..... :o:

Torrents arnt always fast, I like the reliability of downloading from Rapidshare as long as the link isn't dead I know its going to max out my connection. I dont really trust torrents, I like to get files from usenet where possible using encryption, Rapidshare is my backup and torrents are my last resort.

These 2 file hosts aren't the only ones around, so will the same slowness occur on all of them.

So are you saying you don't believe me?

What evidence do you actually want?

I have had newsgroups slowed to 400-600k numerous times over the past 1 week ish, and when i stop my usenet client and get a torrent from a fast torrent site i get full 2.3mb/s (20mb connection speed). They appear to be throttling usenet for me, i'm using virgin's own usenet btw not a subscription private server.

Let's be really honest about this.

Why else do we really want these massive download speeds in the first place?
You trying to tell me that they want it for just gaming and browsing, you're having a laugh.

So by the looks of it it's only certain customers that are being affected by this slow d/l speed Rapidshare and Megaupload problem.

So let's be honest.

You have made a claim and have no evidence to back it up. Others have reported normal download speeds to the sites you named .

So I'm not saying I don't believe you, I'm saying that, by virtue of the information provided by other posters, your statement is b/s

You say back it up, you want an image or something?

The fact that you are experiencing slow downloads does not support your statement that it is
"clear that Virgin Media have put in some sort of filter to slow down all downloads to Rapidshare and Megaupload."

Others are not experiencing the problem which contradicts your assertion.

I don't want to get into an argument, all I want to know is why I am getting this problem, India aren't able to help me in the slightest.

It is clear to me, that is why I said that, it is ok for all other downloads but not from these 2 hosts, surely that is clear that some filter must be in place or something.

I was asking about the blueyonder game files and if anyone had slow downloads from them too. But that was before they started to back normal again.

Just noticed that disabling avast antivirus stops the throttling of usenet for me. Stupid Avast!

Having just downloaded nigh on 15GB worth of game and patches there are certainly uses. Kindly don't tar everyone with the same brush just because you think it's fine to violate copyright. That you are only on 10Mbps and don't even have the decency to pay your supplier more to leech copyright material in quantity just adds to the comedy.

In other news I have already explained the cause of this issue, several times on this forum and again in this thread. I'll leave you to obsess over conspiracy theories and power levels at your convenience.

I think the issue is that RS/MU are often used AS the "other source" as they're HTTP downloads vs Torrents.

OP: Try using a download manager such as Orbit Downloader.
Open Rapidshare in Internet Explorer, login. Enable Direct Downloads in the options.
Then, proceed to use orbit to open 8 connections to Rapidshare and get your full speed.

Why call them conspiracy theories, I have never used that term on this thread, and I'm certainly not obsessed by them, all I did was to add something from your very own post regarding IWF.

If I used the words "clear to me" then it's meant as it's written.

just because you're getting slow download speeds from Rapidshare and Megaupload does not mean that VM are throttling those sites.

I get full speed on RS 95% of the time as Im a premium user. Change your premium zone settings on Rapidshare so it gives you the option to choose the download server before downloading files from there.

rapidshare fine here, consider the free service is heavily throttled by themselves. On a premium account I got 1.4meg/sec using their level3 route. Not tried any of the other routes as that was fast enough for me to not bother trying.
