What are all of the £0.17 and £0.26 for? When my Mrs calls my mobile phone and I don't even answer but immediately hang up and then call her back on my cheap minutes, are we getting charged just because it rung the other end and wasn't picked up?

If it goes to voicemail, if your engaged or if you have a music ringtone it will charge

connection fee to mobile network
Call charges are rounded up to the next penny. A call connection charge of 11.99p per call applies
unless otherwise stated.http://shop.virginmedia.com/phone/calling-costs.html

Thanks for the help but I am still confused. Can someone spell it out? If I call a mobile and it simply connects and rings, do I get charged? If it charges 11.99p to connect then why don't I see just 12pence costs anywhere? I don't get what the 17p and 26p costs are. They do not match any costs I can see for anything per minute or fees.

When you press cancel on your mobile it sends the landline to your voicemail

if you look at http://shop.virginmedia.com/content/dam/allyours/pdf/004498%20Non-geo_phonebook_1st%20July_V1.pdf
and see what the connection code is for your phone
then look at http://shop.virginmedia.com/content/dam/allyours/pdf/004578-Residential-Cable-October-v3.pdf
to see the charge is for the code!
your mobile network may also charge a connection fee to virgin hence the 0.26

What a rip! I get miffed with landline costs. Any number I want to call is some non included one on the package like 0845 or whatever, and other calls I would want to make to mobiles are just ridiculous.

when calling a mobile you get charged from the moment you are connected to the mobile network (before the mobile even rings)

for instance calling an orange mobile which is in the FM4 charge band

connection fee 11.99 pence
standard call charge per minute 13.95 pence(minimum call charge is 1 min)

therefore 11.99 + 13.95 = 25.94 pence

charges are rounded up to the nearest penny ... hence your 26 pence charge
