Hi all, one of the lights on the front of my modem has started to flash on/off continuously. It's the right hand side one that says ready on it. Is it something I should be worried about? Or any reason why it's started doing this? TIA, WWAS.

Hi Hom3r, there's no name on it, it just has the VirginMedia logo on it.
There should be a label on it the one with the MAC address on it.
Do NOT public the MAC addess on here.
MAC address will look like one of these examples (0 to 9 & a to f):
1. 12.34.56.78.90.ab
2. 1234567890ab
3. 12-34-56-78-90-ab

If its flashing ready and unable to connect to the Internet then its usually maintenance or a Small Issue.
If its flashing but is connected its just a little fault with the modems, Mine done the same for periods of time but was never an issue using the Old NTL:250 modem

Hi Hom3r, it has a label on the back, but there are more letters than numbers, it also says model no EO8COO7.
adsii_nufc, it is connected to the internet, but it's not an old NTL modem.
When I went to look for the MAC address, the modem felt very hot.
The modem I have has had the 'ready' light flashing for weeks. If it's still connected, just leave it.the modem felt very hot.Yep. All Cabletel/ntl/VM owned kit that I've used has run surprisingly hot.

If it is black with Virginmedia on the front then it will be an Ambit 256 which really should not feel much hotter than your skin, some of these have firmware issues which cause the ready light to flash even though you are online.
Please post the Upstream and Downstream stats from your modem just click http://192.168.100.1/CmOpConfig.asp or if that does not work click http://192.168.100.1/

Hi Masque, the first link asked for a username & password, and I don't have one. The second link only gave details of modem, nothing about upstream/downstream.

Password for both is ROOT

It should log in automatically on the first link as it should have the username and password already in place which should both be "root"

It still won't accept it with root as the password, it keeps coming up with this....
HTTP 401 - Unauthorized
Authorization is required to access the configuration server.
You must enter the correct username and/or password.
It still won't accept it with root as the password.
Does it actually ask for a username and password if so ensure that you use lowercase.

Yes it does ask for a username & password, but I've never had one, I've tried various ones but nothing works. There's no option to create one either.

The only username it should use is the word root

But have you tried to enter it in lower case for both username and password as root

Thanks Masque, it worked with root on both. Here's the info....
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 768000

Thanks VMboy, yes I did, lol.

Hope these are the right ones!
Downstream receive power level 2.3 dBmV
Upstream transmit power level 55.3 dBmV

Your Upstream is rather high so may need an engineer.
