View Full Version : Best homeplugs for VM 50Mb?

Hey,

I had the 50Mb service installed today, and everything's working fine.

Apart from my 85Mbps homeplugs are only sending about 12Mb speeds to my laptop upstairs.

So which 200Mbps homeplugs would be best for Virgins 50Mb service.

Faster the better but you cant beat ethernet cable

Are your 85mb home plugs the Netgear brand by any chance? As I have two of those and can only manage a paltry 10mb from one room to the kitchen.

Personally I'd go to Ebuyer, look up the different homeplugs on there and the reviews that people leave.

10-15 mbps throughput is pretty much par for the course for 85mps rated homeplugs. I've got a pair of Devolos that struggle to get over 15 mbps. A search for homeplug on this forum will reveal that it's unrealistic to expect more. Like the OP, I'd be interested to hear what the realistic throughput on 200 mbps homeplugs is.

I've got 85Mbps "Advent" ones and I only get around 10mb - 12mb too.

Like the OP, I'd be interested to hear what the realistic throughput on 200 mbps homeplugs is.

Yea there's loads of 200Mbps plugs around, with different prices, but it seems really hard to find what the throughput is.

I use Netgear based home plugs the 200Mbs ones and they work v well.

I've looked at some reviews for 200mbps homeplugs and they say that the realistic bandwidth is about 50mbps.

It seems to me like you'd be better off getting 802.11n wifi. Personally I only rely on gigabit ethernet.

This gives you 1Gbps, which is sure to beat wireless.

I wasnt aware 1Gbps existed for homeplugs, now I know I wouldnt buy any other speed

I found a good price on some Belkin 200Mbps Homeplugs on eBay, so I've ordered those.

I'll let you guys know what speed I get, compared to the the 8-12Mbps I was getting with 85Mbps homeplugs.

I use the Devolo 200Mbps plugs - don't really transfer files across my network, but I get the full 50Mbps when downloading from the net
