I realise that problems with this router have been discussed on this website and others many times before.
However, after a call to Virgin customer service, I'm wondering if there is actually any fix for this at all.

My router worked fine for a few months after I had the 50Mb upgrade
Then, a couple of weeks ago, as the 24 hour IT support in my house, I started getting complaints from all and sundry that they couldn't connect to the internet.
Eventually I realised it was a DHCP problem.
Reboot the router and it works for a couple of hours then just stops taking calls.

Virgins advice was to try some of the other versions of firmware you can find with Google, which may work but doesn't sound like a definitive answer to me.

So, is the any evidence that any of these other firmware versions work?

DD-WRT is excellent firmware and does support some revisions of your router

You don't seem to have a lot to lose so give it a whirl....

Aye, changing the firmware fixed a few issues I was having with the default VM firmware.

yes dd-wrt is the answer :) but be sure to read the peacock thread (http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=51486) and check their wiki for that router (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/DIR-615C) as the router database isn't kept as up to date :)
