Websites are randomly timing out for me, whilst other services (IRC, MSN, Torrents) are running fine.

I've set my DNS servers back to openDNS and all seems good now.

Anyone else having similar issues?

My internet is shocking tonight:

Really porr web pages loads, and this is on a 20MB service!

My service was also poor last night, 10 meg downloading at 1.5.

I can't understand how sometimes I run Speedtest and get wild readings of 50 meg and even 80 meg download speed....

It was all over the place last night, from 0.2Mb to 15Mb in the same test!
Has been OK so far today, fingers crossed it does not crumble again tonight when more users come online, that is what happened the last 2 nights.

Just use a decent DNS provider like Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), Level 3 (4.2.2.1 - 4.2.2.5), OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220), or Comodo Secure DNS (156.154.70.22 and 156.154.71.22).

Any of those will provide a fast and reliable service, though be aware that OpenDNS and Comodo both hijack NX (they'll show ads in your search results etc). I believe you can turn this off, however, but I tend to stick with Google these days, using Level 3 as a failover.

You can also find out which DNS servers are best for your particular connection by running GRC's DNS Performance Benchmark (http://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm) or (my favourite) Namebench (http://code.google.com/p/namebench/).
