New user to VM duplicate mac problem

Hi

Just got VM broadband yesterday and got connected. All was fine until about 4 hours ago when we suddenly got disconnected. Support have told us that our mac is issued to someone else, a couple of times they have actually called me mr thompson when I have come back off hold :)

I'm currently on hold again as I type this (from another ISP). Is this a common thing, I am very disappointed, I've probably spent about 1.5 hours on the phone now and I'm on the third call!

Sounds a bit weird to me, ask them to send you a new modem !

They've fixed it now, took another 35 minutes thoug. Lets hope it says fixed :)

Wonder if this was a case of cloned modem ?

I'm clueless, the first VM agent told me the modem was registered to a Mr Thompson and the third one referred to me as him

I doubt it as if it was a cloned modem they wouldnt of been calling him by a different name and the average CSR wouldnt be able to trace what property it went to. It could be a genuine balls up but who knows!

Seem to remember there was an issue a few years ago where a batch of CMs (or possibly STBs at that time) were issued with duplicate MAC addresses. Not sure how they could fix that remotely though.
