Hi i have been with vm 3 years and my average monthly download is 2 - 4 gb
this month i have gone on a download binge and it looks like i am gonna end the month downloading well over 300gb will i get in trouble? im on XL BB.

Even just in the traffic managed time zones (10am-3pm, 4-9pm) you're allowed 10.5Gb/day. Over a month that's over 300Gb without traffic management kicking in. I don't see why it should be a problem.

I would not worry i average 2 to 3 times that amount each month

Its 22-05 and i 5 downloads on the go and they all add up to less than 300kbps am i still being throttled ??

The throttle doesn't end at 9. If you get throttled at 8:30 then it keeps going till 2:30.

Throttled speed is 75% of normal, on XL that would end up as 5Mb.

what are you downloading? my maximum download per month around 15GB, only because I fan of Skype, SIP/Internet telephone and BBC iPlayer.

In my case I primarily download TV programmes in order to get the latest versions before they are shown in the UK.

This is the low season, atm, so series such as Fringe, V & Stargate Universe are waiting for the 'fall' - however Warehouse 13 should start a new series on 6th July :)

When I was on 20mb net I was downloading way over 300gb a month and never had issues with throttling to be fair. There was an odd day it did slip down a peg or two but its hardly noticable on cable wheras on something like Sky connect or other ADSL products you will notice that throttling when you have a speed reading of 0.01kbps

Slightly Offtopic: But we need to realise how lucky we are to have a provider like Virgin in this day and age because Ive experienced ADSL With Sky and other ISP's.. you think your getting throttled.. Try Sky connect and youll see what real throttling looks like. God bless Virgin!

Not really. I used to regularly do 800GB+ a month for around 2 years. Not even so much as a peep from them. It's none of their business what you do with your connection until someone reports you for whatever illegal activity you're carrying out (if they find out/you tell that person who reports you). If it's legal, you're fine.

Try Sky connect and youll see what real throttling looks like.It's more likely highly contended than actually throttled - just oversubscribing costs nothing but throttling involves an expense :)

The only time I've had a slap on the wrists for downloading from VM was when I did 3TB in a month, and then the letter just said to move my downloading to non-peak times rather than cut down on it.

Didn't realise there was that much Linux available. 60 Blu Rays worth of Operating System. Good effort running at 10Mbps non-stop all month.

On topic they may get moany and ask you to move your downloads to off-peak periods or they may not. The decision on whether or not to do that action appears to be picked out of a hat. Either way you'll be ok.
