Sky Sports News to be taken off Freeview
The satellite broadcaster has decided to replace the 24-hour sports news service with a new Sky 3+1 channel.
The Guardian reported that BSkyB has made the move in a bid to drive up subscription revenues, having previously used the channel to advertise their paid-for services.
As part of the move, BSkyB is to boost editorial investment in Sky Sports News, while plans to launch an HD version of the channel are afoot.
"As part of a subscription service, customers can look forward to expanded coverage and the launch of Europe's first HD sports news service," said the Sky Sports managing director, Barney Francis.
