View Full Version : Incredibly slow connection (west mids)
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2010/05/11.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
Downstream
Frequency 331000000 Hz Locked
Signal to Noise Ratio 34 dB
Power Level 2 dB
Upstream
Channel ID 1
Frequency 22200000 Hz Ranged
Power Level 27 dBmV
It's been like this for a couple of days and I honestly cannot work out why :\
I'm on the 10 Meg package
Thanks for any help guys :)
Upstream way to low and will need a technician.
Thanks mate, it's a fair old modem, surprised it didn't pop its clogs earlier.
Cheers again for the assistance, will give 'em a call asap :)
You may get offshore and if you are not happy with the outcome ring tomorrow after 0800 for a UK agent.
Hmm, it seems my upstream/downstream have been "throttled"
Question..the throttling shouldnt affect the power level should it? so the modem is still faulty?
Also, I dont fall into any of the 'traffic management areas', but it is a 75% throttle like it says, is this a nationwide trial now?
You would only be traffic managed if you downloaded to much before 9pm as per here http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html
Your speeds fit with bring traffic manged, I missed that before as I was concentrating on the SNR but it only lasts for a maximum of 5 hours.
If it is no different in the morning ring up as I doubt that the SNR will change.
Alright, thanks again mate
if your modem is very old, call them up, they will change it for free. They did mine a while back.

That's using wireless in my house.
Right, now my connection is perfect, must have been the throttling.
Should I still get the upstream fixed? Just, it doesn't seem to be causing any problems as such..
Cheers,
James

That modem is more than capable of 10Mb but if you ring up and offer a replacement then take it and you can see if it makes a difference to the SNR.

I'll see how it goes, thanks mate :)
I am awaiting a new Modem... Having issues with my line... VERY high Jitter and packet loss, although Download speed is pretty near 10mb most of the time. UPload speed never much more than 200 or 300k... Somehow it feels like a VM Network issue, but lets see what happens after the new modem comes!
