Hi, I have been experiencing slow broadband speeds for a while now which haven't been fixed at all! Including the slow speed I keep experiencing, a lot of packet loss is shown below. Is there something on my end (eg router) or is it something on virgin media's end?

Download Failed (1) (http://www.pingtest.net)

Well to rule out the router, you simply try the Pingest when directly connected to the modem....

I'm afraid that pingtest.net is an utterly useless tool because you have to ask the question where is the packet loss occurring!

I recommend you use tracert or pathping (I prefer pathping), both of which display the nodes that are pinged. You can see where bottlenecks might be if you do several of these to the same place (www.bbc.co.uk)

Also how is this packet loss harming you? Pings are discardable by a busy router; real data isn't. In the pingtest you provided, the avearge RTT time is not horrific (38ms) and the jitter is acceptable at 1/3 of the latency value - which is also technically acceptable.

Matt has correctly suggested you do your test without the router because your firewall can/will drop ping packets addressed to it. Then that damn pingtest tells you 88% of packets are lost.

You could also post your modem stats and event log so we can see if there's something that stands out there.

HTH.
