I have a 3COM CMX cable modem which I have been using for years and I am on a 10meg package.

I only get up to around 5meg download and have been told that a new modem would allow me to get the full 10 meg.

How do I go about getting a new modem & who do I have to contact.

Hi there,

You can either give Technical Support a ring on 151 from a Virgin phone or 08454541111 from any other phone and they will post you one, or alternatively you can post on the VM Forum http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Fibre-optic-broadband-cable/bd-p/Fibre and they will also be able to send you one.

Hope this helps,
Ben :)

That is an antique and will be replaced on sight so just call or post as above and you will be sorted out.;)

I rang them up as suggested (thanks for the advice) and a new one is one it's way, great result. :)

weren't they one of the first modems available? iirc, customers could choose to buy the modem for a reduced package price.

Excellent :tu:, when it arrives just follow the instructions and ring the activation line in the installation guide that comes with it :)

I'm on 10Mb, and getting 10Mb with a Surfboard 4100. Don't see why the link says that they don't support 10Mb as the specs say they are capable of up to 38Mb/s, they also have a 10/100 ethernet port, so that's not the issue.

@OP: Are you currently connected via USB?

@Jon T: You're probably connected via Ethernet which doesn't have the 5Mbps limit that USB has.

Correct. Ethernet though to a Linksys WRT54G v3.2 running Tomato firmware:D

I thought that the USB port limitations were what the article was hinting at.

Yes they should replace it for you.
