Howdy guys,

Ive had massive problems with my virgin broadband connecting to the EA servers in the states. Either a constant lag or complete disconnection and have tried as many variables to work out were the fault lies........still not determined if its fully virgin or its EA's notoriously bad servers.

Virgin's Tech guys state that my line is fine with them, but i still cant understand why i have a constant crap connection with the Ea servers when playing on xbox and others I know havent.

Currently dealing with Ea's Tech guys and they have recently replied, after i sent a traceroute to them, stating:

The issue could lie with your ISP, but not necessarily with your actual connection to their network but instead the way they have you connected to us. The sudden significant jump in ping time between hops 6 and 7 on your UO traces would be indicative of that. The only servers that are our servers on the trace were the ones with the IP addresses 159.153.XXX.XXX, meaning the last hops which were likely slow due to the previous server information was being passed through having a high ping time.

My trace route is this (previously shown this on a different thread):

From the above info is there anything i can possibly do, other than change ISP to sort this situation out? I mean can virgin change the way i connect to this server or will i get the usual "your connection is fine and if not.......just reset your modem!" aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Your help is very much appreciated with this problem guys!

The 10 gig (xe) transit is funnelled into 1 gig (ge). That could be the bottleneck. I don't know if C&W's transit was taken over by VM when they purchased the C&W home BB business - the domain is still registered to C&W.

If you know anyone else not on VM who plays EA games, you could publish a tracert from there to answer you question. We'd like to know, of course.
