How do i know if my modem levels or whatever its called are right since im still suffering from worse than normal service after trying EVERYTHING on my side. Only around this time (3am) does it get OK around 9-10Mb sometimes during afternoon it goes to around 512K service.

Sometimes the only way to surf the internet without having to wait 30-40 seconds for a page to load is to set the proxy to virgin media web cache.

CS say everything is as normal after doing their tests.

Im on 20Mb service

Downstream SNR: 37.9dB
Downstream Recieve Power Level: 8.5dBmV
Upload Transmit Power Level: 39.5dBmV

Your downstream power level is too high. You need to book a tech visit to adjust.

Taken from Moldova's sticky
Downstream Receive Power: Ideally +/- 3dBmV, cause for concern at around +/- 8dBmV, different modems handle the higher and lower levels differently however I'd expect to see service degredation at that point.

How can i convince CS to send someone out, as they wont budge after 4 calls they keep telling me everything is normal.

If the tech comes out, will he be able to detect the issue or would i need to tell him?

thanks

The tech should be able to detect the problem easily. If you are having trouble booking a tech on the phone try a post on the VM help and support forum where you will get a reply from 2nd line support.

Zee ring after 9am on an office day.

You then have increased chance of scottish call centre.

Then when you report the problem say things like the modem resets itself and you see all the lights flash, and say you have been told the downstream level is too high so you saving the guy at the other end time on diagnosis.

If you lucky it wont be long before a tech gets booked. I did this when I rang and the guy had a lot of common sense, he asked me to verify the readings to him of my modem web page and then he booked the tech, no faffing about with reboots etc.

im being told by CS (in india) that there is nothing wrong at all and that anything over 12.5 downstream power level is too high not 8, so he said he cant do anything.

i just told him send someone out. at the moment its 6.9dBmV but at night it goes to around 8.5 and as high as 9.0.

I note this thread (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/33663474-internet-slower-then-normal.html) didn't go anywhere. I trust all of this was worked through and confirmed as ok?

Everything is OK on my side. It must be on their side, they have arranged a tech to come out and check it on Sunday.
