I seem to be having very poor performance when using VM's default DNS servers (194.168.8.100 & 194.168.4.100). Is anyone else seeing similar issues?

Can anyone recommend a couple of decent DNS addresses as an alternative? I've tried Google's public DNS (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) but they seem to be just as bad. :(

Many thanks for reading/replying.

You could try OpenDNS - 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Just trying these DNS addresses now.

Oddly enough, after losing my patience with the cable service 2 hours after posting, I reset the CM and it returned to normal speed.....for a bit. How silly of me to pin the blame on something other than the suppliers' ability to SUPPLY.

Tonight I started to investigate BT and their Infinity service. I don't really care if they can't offer 100Mb (or whatever headline grabbing number is flavour of the month) as, to me, it's more about it working when I need it - something that VM don't really care about even after 6 months of complaints/refunds.

Shocking service that initiated a 3rd complaint to the ISPA.

Thanks, Simon, but these aren't any better. I've noted them down, though.

Each cableforum.co.uk page is taking around 30s to load, and when they eventually do, it looks like the html was written in 1998. I may have to ring 151 and upgrade my connection to a 56Kbps modem if it keeps up like this. Either that or dig out my original 3Com CMX that NTL made me pay £150 for.

I've used OpenDNS' servers across various machines and routers for years without any problems whatsoever, so perhaps the problem is with the hardware.

Yes, you're right. The problem is with the hardware. Specifically, Virgin Media's Motorola supplied UBR.
