I have 2mb Virgin Media broadband and my Motorola SB5100 modem has packed up, can I just buy a Virgin Media modem to plug straight in?

Hi and :welcome:,

If the modem has failed then you need to call faults on 151 from a Virgin Phone or 08454541111 from any other phone and tell them and they will either send you a new one or send an engineer to fix it.

It's gonna be cheaper to buy one cos VM will probably charge a fortune cos I think it has been damaged by one of the kids.

As Ben B said.

VM don't sell Modems, and any you find on Ebay etc are stolen (usually unreturned and disabled) and worthless. VM will not activate a modem you buy. All Modems are unique - only those issued offically as part of your contract by VM will work. So call call 'em up and they will replace yours for free.

Well you can just hope they don't find out, and if they do then it's £50 charge

Go ahead and buy one then.

Have fun trying to get VM to allow it on their network.

Tell them where you bought it from too while you're on the phone. They might pay the thief commision :D

And you got what you asked for. Advice. Sarcasm is free :)

Chill.

The barbs are expected - nobody on this forum condones theft of service, intentional or accidental.

Enjoy your weekend :)

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, so just shows what you are.

If I knew it was theft of service do you think I would come on here asking for advice.....NO!!

Get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gillc just ignore.

Ring up VM and tell them the modem is not working and they will post one out to you or send an engineer. If it isn't damaged in any physical way and an engineer comes out then they shouldn't charge you. But if they do charge you it will be £50.

Ben :)

Definitely ignore darren.b, his response is (fortunately) not typical of the majority here.

Oh. I'm, sorry.

I thought that it was wrong to buy modems from unofficial sources and use them to connect to VM.
