Hello all,

I came home yesterday afternoon to a non-working internet connection, so I dutifully power-cycled the modem and the router and all was well.

I've just looked at the modem config and the event log has these entries:

Mon Mar 22 16:20:17 2010 Mon Mar 22 16:20:17 2010 Information (7) CableModem software upgrade failed
Mon Mar 22 16:20:17 2010 Mon Mar 22 16:20:17 2010 Error (4) SW upgrade Failed after download - Incompatible SW file
Mon Mar 22 16:20:17 2010 Mon Mar 22 16:20:17 2010 Information (7) SW dload: Invalid image signature!
Mon Mar 22 16:20:14 2010 Mon Mar 22 16:20:14 2010 Notice (6) SW Download INIT - Via Config file kldJKDHSUBsgvca69834
Mon Mar 22 16:20:14 2010 Mon Mar 22 16:20:14 2010 Information (7) CableModem software download started
Mon Mar 22 16:20:14 2010 Mon Mar 22 16:20:14 2010 Information (7) Software upgrade has started.

So something's clearly not right, or went wrong yesterday.

More worrying that that however, is what's displayed in the Operation Config screen:

Cable Modem Operation Configuration
Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 0
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 0
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst : 0
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1
Modem Capability : Concatenation Enabled, Fragametation Enabled, PHS Enabled

Is it worth my restarting the modem again? Everything's up and working.

Thanks,

Tim

According to the config you shouldn't have a connection. A restart more than likely will clear it but if it's working is it worth it?

Thanks. I did restart it via a reset to defaults on the modem. Nothing's changed - and after the reset I got another list of failed SW upgrade attempts.

But it's working, as you can see!

Thanks again,

OK so I called 151 and a very nice chap called Mike tested the modem from his end and saw no errors at all. I'll just keep an eye on it and if necessary maybe request a replacement modem. I was thinking about moving to 20Mb anyway.

If your connection was/is working as expected, why even go poking about in the modem config page, and why on earth bother tech support with it?

Pay no attention the man behind the curtain, and all that ;)

The OP said he came home to a non-working internet connection, perhaps he thought it best to try and get to the root of the problem and prevent it happening in the future?
