Hi guys,

For the past few months now our 50mb service has been terrible, and when I say terrible I mean this:

Yes, that bad.

So it used to be ok, it has always fluctuated between 15-45mb depending on time of day, which is still quite bad but right now we are desperate. We cannot game, VoIP, stream videos or even browse with ease.

If we are lucky, for a few hours of the day (and I mean really lucky), we will get the 50mb so this makes me wonder what is actually wrong. I know we can get the top speeds but 95% of the time we are looking at 0.4mb - 1mb.

I've tried getting help from customer services but they are useless and keep feeding me crap saying they are fixing it (the deadline the quote goes up each time I ring).

We are using wired connection through a router, however I have tested this going straight into the modem.

The modem 'tick' light stays solid, however the 'Down', 'Up', and 'PC' symbols all flash vigorously. Is this normal?

I don't know what else I can say, so i'll post the modem numbers.

Thanks.

Rob.

hi you are not the only one in country to have theses faults, i had a tech out and when we connected straight to router it was 54meg put the dlink router on and went to 6meg, virgin state as free gift wont help, so is this another hype service from virgin.

Hmm, well that isn't the problem it doesn't matter if I connect to the modem or the router it does not drastically change much. My problem is that the service fluctuates all over the place, usually its <5mb, and randomly we get 10 minutes every now and then of 50mbs.

Past few nights at roughly 1am-3am it jumps from 1mb to 50mb, as if someone is flicking a switch. I have no idea what I can do about this but find a new ISP if it continues.

Sorry about link spam but here is the modem info. I posted it all because quite frankly I have no idea what any of it means, and if anyone wants to see any more info just give me some brief instructions how to acquire it.

However, by some mad coincidence these screen shots were taken in that small window of 40mb-50mb server we get each day. I don't know if that voids them? Should I post them again when it's at it's usual worst?

Thanks

Rob.

On your 2nd image it shows your SNR (RxMER) as being below 35 dB, I don't think this will be helping, so you have too much noise on the line,

I,m no expert though.

I don't know if this will help but have you tried making sure all your connections are done up tight from the modem to the brown box outside,

also there have been many posts about Liverpool and it doesnt appear to be the best part of the vm network at the moment.

have you had any engineers out to have a look ?

Ive always found the 50Mbps team to be spot on, thorough and are willing to go the extra mile.

Maybe in your case they know the network is fubar, so cant do much to help.

have you had a reduction on your bill, I know it doesn't help but you shouldn't be paying top whack if its that bad.
