Trying to help someone out. She has a 10Mb connection but only getting 0.38Mb. She has finally got onto the newsgroups and it has been suggested spyware might be causing the slow speeds as netstat -a showed the following.

Any suggestions? Is there a fault with her connection or spyware related?

Downstream SNR : 23.4 dB

This can't be good. It needs to be 35 dB SNR to have any chance of doing anything at 256QAM modulation. Is everything screwed in tight (modem & wall box)?

As for spyware, you can google each port to see if it's suspect. Personally I'd trust Malwarebytes.

I'll find out and get back to you.

Seph,

Thanks for this - I added this comment (slightly amended) to Krissy's newsgroup post and support have now organised her an engineer for tomorrow.

Hi kristina ,

As jem has advised your downstream SNR is too low and will need
increasing by a service engineer. Can you let me know when in the next
7 days you will be available? Our timeslots Monday to Fridays are
8am-12noon, 12noon-4pm and 4pm-7pm. Saturdays 8am-12noon and 12noon-4pm.

The previous support guy must have missed it and got too caught up with a supposed spyware issue.
