Hi guys,

Firstly, this is my first post here, i've been browsing for a while, and i must say, i've found this site to be hugely informative and helpful, now, onto my question.

I had 50mb installed around november, and since then my connection has been ok, getting between 44 - 50mb (around 5.0 - 6.1Mb/s) i also noticed that my power levels were a little high, at around 7 - 8, so VM sent an engineer to fit an attenuator to my modem. That brought the levels to about 1 - 2, perfect! or so i thought...
Lately my levels have been rising, they're now at 3 - 5 again, which from what i read is still ok, but i'm worried they'll go higher. I also noticed my speed has been irregular from 36 - 50mb, plus i've had several T3 timeouts and connection just dying for no reason.

Contacted VM tonight and they said they're aware of a national issue where the cards in the local green boxes are going faulty and they're being investigated. Has anyone else heard this? The person at VM mentioned i'd had 30 power changes or something in the last 24 hours and contacted a senior member who did tests and mentioned this issue. So i'm a little confused there.

Do these settings look ok to everyone? Or do i have a problem?

I'm in the Eccles, Manchester area and i'm currently connected too:

cpc2-ward9-2-0-MOD EDIT.cable.virginmedia.com

The codewords have varied from 0 - 50,000+ on correctable and from 0 - 3000 on the uncorrectable. Most appear to be on DS1.

Also, does anyone know where i can get myself a 10db attenuator to lower my power levels if/when they get too high? I'm not too sure what i should be looking at, and VM have said there is nowhere i can get them from, besides themselves, and they wont provide one.

Thanks for any help!
Paul

All seems better today, and the power levels seem to be holding out around 3.50 - 2.80. Downloads are still pretty much all over the place, but i'm starting to think it's the router that might be the problem now :(

Does anyone know if the D-Link DIR-635 is compatible with 50mb broadband? I'm guessing it is, but my speeds seem to be really incosistent. Speedtest.net London server shows 50.40mbit down and 1.61mbit up, Cableforum speedtest averages at about 48mbit, so i really think it's the router.

Can anyone suggest a good router for 50mb, rather than the 615 supplied or 635?

Thanks! :)

50Mbit Service has always been a good 48-50mbit when tested with something the other end can cope with have noticed a few so called speed tests simply cannot keep up with 50mbit still, I have ditched the free router in favor of a Gigabit router the dlink one supplied was very cheap looking plastic oh and it stopped working all together after about 2 days just binned it and got a Netgear Gigabit Type Router
