Hi folks,

Sorry if this question is repeated before because I am sure I have seen it here before but using the search facility within cable forum but no results shown. Maybe it is me not putting in the correct search parameters.

Question is, using a site called http://tools.virginmedia.com/ shows the client host name, my host is, cpc*-uddi**-*-0-cust*.uddi.cable.virginmedia.com.

Does anyone know what the naming convention is/meaning and the reasons to why VM would choose this as oppose to the previous naming convention? I think, it just revealed your IP address/ubr location only.

Thanks,

Boaby:confused:

It's similar to NTL's naming convention where as telewest/blueyonder seemed to have the IP's. They had to choose one and it seems they've gone with the NTL one..

Well that's my take on it

Yep, standardisation and the ex-ntl convention is more immediately informative for trouble shooting purposes so was chosen over the totally uninformative ex-Telewest one.
