View Full Version : Virgin refusing to fix a street cab

Anyone know if their legally allowed to do that? a small street cab has a missing cover so all the cables are exposed, i've contacted VM who said they were aware of the issue and that the techs don't know how to fix it, that was about 2 months ago and its still not repaired.

I have also reported this to my local authorty because it poses a health a safety risk, unfortunatly they dont care

Where abouts is the offending cabinet?

Ring this number: 08708883116 and report exactly where the location of the cabinet is.

not until something happens or somebody gets hurt. then they'll change their tone.

They haven't refused anything according to what you have said.

get a new cover/door simples. i honestly think it's not rocket science - although they seem to be making it out to be.

Unfortunately it isn't as straight forward as that, alot of the cabinets out there are years old and are obselete, so even a simple door/lid/hindge can mean a complete new cabinet being fitted at quite an expense.
Spares are held but like any spares these dwindle over the years so the OP needs to report again.

Maybe someone who works for VM in the area he lives could help??

its on brunswick street in swansea, ill try that number tomorrow

their saying they don't know how to fix it and left it at that, indicating their refusing to fix it because their making no effort to do so

this problem has also meant that my broadband is off more than its on, the weired thing is TV and interactive services aren't effected.

The cab in question isn't one of the big double door cabs, its the small one with a single lid

If interactive works while internet doesn't the cabinet isn't the problem. Of little use to you with the cabinet getting fixed but for the Internet issue you're barking up the wrong tree blaming it.

I keep reporting my open cabinet which has been open for probably almost a year now. They keep ignoring me.

It's what those in the industry call a 'coincidence'. Trust Broadbandings on this, he is quite the expert when it comes to cable infrastructure (though I can't believe I'm inflating his ego by saying so :erm: :D ).

There are other things that can go wrong with the network that would affect all subscribers in a given area and you should raise it as a fault *without* confusing things for yourself by trying to tie it up with the cabinet door. Let the techs do what the techs do. Besides, if you get someone out to fix your broadband, and they see the busted door for themselves, they may then do something about it.

Your interactive goes down exactly the same cable and in some cases uses exactly the same equipment all the way through as the broadband service. If the disturbance is the cause of the internet problems it should be affecting the broadband too.

The only major difference is that the broadband may go to a different bit of kit in Virgin which the set top boxes absolutely will not go to, ever. Does seem unlikely though that a fault in a cabinet would break internet but not interactive.

Would be worth you posting the usual power levels and modem logs to check please. http://192.168.100.1

If your in London, then unfortunately the amount of cabs without doors is massive, they get replaced then ripped off either by the locals,Installers,service or the local scrap metal merchants.

Not sure of the exact design but the alot seem to be missing or hanging off, i know they get reported,replaced, broken again or go missing again. The heavier, well more metal to melt.
