Hi i wonder if anyone here can help me.

I have reciently bought a new computer with windows 7 on it. for some reason when im downloading or using something that requires a lot of bandwith my connection drops and in network and sharing it says

default gateway is not available

now i was told this was a known problem with nvidia chipsets and therefore i fitted a standard realtek chipset ethernet card and still having the same problem.

What is weird though its that i dont seem to get the problem with my ADSL connection that is my works connection, only with my Cable connection.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

it seems to be affecting not only Nvidia but also others, ive read reports on some forums where some intel chipsets are affected also.

just a thought on this as i was having the same issue and thankfully i had a standard Realtek chipset (8139D) PCI card i bought for testing in October and installed it using the latest drivers from realtek site and touch wood it seems ok.

What chipset is ur realtek card and check here to download latest drivers if its one of these listed on the site, install and see what happens...

get the one marked....
Win7 32/64 Auto Installation Program (SID:1354639) Version 6.111

Aswell as disconnections during download i had abismal connection.

Now its usually like this most of the time, not any lower than 18.5mb

Thing is, I have the ASUS M2N SLI-Deluxe Nforce 570 SLI and, using the latest Nvidia mobo drivers and one of the onboard LAN ports, I have no trouble reaching full speeds with no disconnects. I do not install the Nvidia network manager software as this is well known for causing issues. Just the driver.

It should work. It does for me.

well i have done what you suggested and it seems now to be fine and working steady with no dropouts. So much for new pcs being fully compatible with windows 7.
