View Full Version : LS6 UBR Fault?

Hey guys,

I have noticed many users (a handful at least) from the LS6 Leeds area commenting on these forums alone, so I thought I would generate a thread to get the problems I and many other are experiencing some exposure because they sure as hell need sorting out.

Essentially the problem appears to be overcrowed UBR resulting in packet loss, rediculous ping and jitter for us all. I don't think this is acceptable as in conjunction with frequent speed drops I am in simple terms...paying for a sub standard service. I have read the Terms and Conditions, and in all honesty I am highly considering getting out of this contract and opting to go with Sky or 02 or an ISP that at least has a bit more credibility than Virgin...regardless of the price I may have to pay. I can't stand this anymore.

Anyway, long story short here are some stats taken from 3am this morning. I will post more up shortly in following posts:

Your modem stats are fine. Looking at the pathping, I'd say that the UBR at Seacroft was not responding adequately. I can't say whether there was any maintenance going on or fault, but the oing times down the track emanate from delay at the UBR.

IMO, that is.

You have a reply.....

Hi Yanni Depp,

I have checked the network and can see that there is an upstream issue
that has been passed to our network teams to resolve. It is currently
with our Planning team who will be scheduling the necessary upgrades to
resolve this issue as soon as possible. The reference for this is
F001133633.

Yanni

You've been assigned the LS6 fault reference number that goes back to November 2009.

You will need to maintain pressure on VM (like an e-mail to their CEO asking if he knows about what's going on in Leeds and whether he can move to resolve this unacceptable do nothing period).

Cheers

Hey guys,

Yeah I have just read that reply; have only just returned from University. I did message drwhofan on the other forum earlier to discuss the CEO matter as he seems to have make progress through this approach.

I have the appropriate details and have a fair idea of what I am going to say based on feedback from drwhofan... what seems to have provided the correct leverage etc.

Do you think it is worth replying on the newsgroup again before I take matter to the CEO?

Cheers x

Yanni - yes keep faith with the newsgroup. You have to keep at it, IMO.

Yeah, keep in contact with the 2nd line guys on the Newsgroups... if you feel you are not getting anywhere then it's up to you what you do after that... HTH

This is like working my way backward through a game of Chinese whispers. Pathetic.

They are just telling you what they know. Some upgrades are relatively easy, others are more complicated and others still may be both of the above but more serious and a higher priority. They can only tell you what planning tell them :(

Yeah and then planning will no doubt tell me that they can only tell me what someone else has told them...

Newsgroups are leading me on like a wild goose chase to be honest, have emailed the CEO, Neil Berkett. Will keep you all informed.

I'm sorry that you have been experiencing ongoing service issues. I will ask my office to help.

Anyone else think that this is a little disapointing? x

Not really. He's the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company. For him to start running with a technical support issue would be quite inappropriate and a very bad use of his time, no offence intended to yourself!

Don't take it personally - he has referred you to his office who are a high level of support and can usually get things moving. You've reached the right people.

This said they cannot perform miracles. If work is planned they can keep you informed of progress and poke the right people however if there aren't a sea of complaints in the area you may have to accept that other areas might have a higher priority - whether you choose to accept that or not is of course entirely up to you and if you aren't happy with it you can take your business elsewhere.

It is not totally uncommon for faults like this to take a couple of months or more to resolve by the way - if the load is so high in the area that capacity will just get eaten up and you'll be back where you started straight away they will look into longer term solutions.

To my surprise I have almost instantly received a phone call from a member of Neils office. Things seem to be on the up.

Definitely the correct path to take. x
