Hi, Ive had problems with the connection since the day i upgraded to 50mb. The engineer who came replaced the modem and the router twice, he also replaced the connector a couple of times. He said something about the power levels being low. I was getting varying speed and never 50mb. The engineer was here for more than 3hrs and he left promising me that there will be someone coming over to check the box on the street and that they will leave a note in my postbox saying theyve rectified the problem. I never got a note and never heard from them again. He also told me that there were some problems in the exchange in this area and that it would be fixed the next week. (that was early december...)
Ive been on holiday since then and never got round to call them and complain.

Can anyone tell me if the power level is too low or not? And what I should do about this?

Heres info from modem:

i'll do it later and post them, any other speed test websites i can use?

this is simply not worth the money!! with all the activation fee's and all that!!

The power levels are what I would term nominal. But ...

Correctable
Codewords 303259 299436 284691 N/A
Uncorrectable
Codewords 1425 1264 800 N/A

That's bad. Have a look at this thread. http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/33656174-correctable-uncorrectable-codewords.html

Post your results on the support newsgroup and they'll test your line and get back to you quickly with their proposed action.

Phew! For a moment looking at the avatar, I thought the cat was me!

Re: the Newsgroups - I'll paste my standard helpful reply which should sort you out:

If you're on Vista or Windows 7, you would use Windows Live Mail (a standard part of your system). To get on the VM Newsgroup you need to be operating through the VM broadband system.

You'd click the "Newsgroups" link at the bottom of the screen and then Tools/Accounts then Add/Newsgroup Account.

Give your Display Name (like philwhite), your e-mail address then your server address for the newsgroup which is "news.virginmedia.com".

You'll then be able (via the Newsgroups menu item) to select the Virgin media icon on the left of a search panel, click on "All" and wait a few minutes till
it's finished listing thousands of newsgroups.

Scroll down to "Virginmedia.support.broadband.cable" and double click it.

And you're there. You can post your stuff including the evidence you've collected.
