Sooner you than me mate, I've been on the 50meg for just under a year now and it's been nothing short of useless. The highest speed I've had over the year on 50meg is 22MBPS.

I had 50meg installed today (Jan 15th) and so far seems well with an average connection of 42Mb and i will be doing some downloading a couple of movies from itunes which are about 1.4gig each so the file transfer rate will be interesting to see.

Forgot to mention that the install went without any issues and the engineer called between the chosen times too.

You are in London and it depends on what equipment you are connected to the other 2 in this thread are in Wigan and Sutton in Ashfield so their connection has no bearing on yours.

You have a 30 day period that you can downgrade in, after you get your install done.

I wouldn't worry only certain areas have problems with 50Mb most areas are fine, just remember you might not always get bang on 50Mb mines goes between 43Mb - 48Mb.

As I said above you have a 30 day period that you can downgrade in, after you get your install done if you are not happy about it.

This is my test. I'm in South Wales. I also tried a Dublin server too. To be honest though, the test means nothing until you try an actual large download. :)

I am in London and see no issues with congestion on 50 but that doesn't really mean much - others nearby might.

I'm from the other side of town to yourself.

The uBR / CMTS you connect to will be irrelevant as there are over 100 ports on each one. Unless you can find someone on 50 who is very close to you it doesn't give any indication of service quality.

A case of suck it and see really, there is the guarantee there.

I agree with you regarding the downloads. I just downloaded a movie from itunes which is a 1.3gig file and it was coming through at a steady 4MB/sec rate.

The minimum download speed is dependant on several things. Try a website that you know of where you can download things from at a good rate in general.

I fly RC jets and helicopters and there is a website i get flying videos from. Websites like this have a relatively low demand on the server so downloads are usually quick and at full rate.

PM me if you want a link to the site.
