I am thinking of upgrading to 20mb broadband but am only willing to pay £25 a month (no phone line , no other services just broadband) , do virgin do deals like this or are they bound to the prices on the website ?

I think without any other services they will not be willing to do any deals, I might be wrong however and there is no harm in trying.
I would ring up on 0845 454 1111 and speak to an agent who can tell you the best package available on your budget.

I've been on the 20Mb connection since April and unless anythings changed it was cheaper to have the phone line as well even though it's not used.

You get better discounts when you have more service
see what your saying , just looking around and i realise its adsl but 'BE broadband' do up to 24mb broadband with 2.5mb upload for £21.50 a month , its the upload that interests me more than the download , why are virgin so stingy with the upload ?

Does that include the line rental. Reason i ask is they ask this when you order

I am assuming from that information that you need to factor in the additional cost of the land line from BT.
yeah , have a bt landline , can't remember how much i pay a month though ? , very low user tarriff , but yeah didn't think of that..
i'm paying 25£ for 10mb mate. i've got phone, 10mb broadband and m tv. tried to get the broadband fee down but they said i've got all the discounts available

Last year I had 20 MB Broadband and Phone Xl for £28.95 due to massive discount.

Virgin have always been stingy with upload rates although that could be changing in the near future.
With BE you still have to pay your BT rental separately. So it would be £21.50pm + BT line rental.
Having said all that I was with BE until I moved in April and could not fault their service nor support one bit (telephone support is East Europe, but miles better than India!)) Unles things have changed recently you have to exchange a couple on Mb download for the 2.5 Mb upload which I found didn't really affect me as I was still getting a pretty much rock steady 16Mb/s up and 2.4Mb/s down.
I came to VM due to the distance from the exchange since moving otherwise I would've stayed with Be (NO TRAFFIC SHAPING!!!!) but you must check your expected speed with their website to find out what speed they can resonably supply you with.
All that said I'm quite happy with my VM services and await the increase in speed.

I've just gone the other way and gone to 02 standard package (Best i can get from ADSL is about 4MB) for half price for 12months. Total cost including line rental £18. The novelty of 20MB soon wore off and 4MB is fine for me and would be for most people. The 1MB upload is a bonus (256K better than Virgin). Unless you have an house full of students or heavy downloading kids 10MB will probably be just as good though i do not know how traffic shaping effects the 10MB. Just what people do with 50MB as well is beyond me i was underusing the 20MB connection and i found when i did need to push it it was usually in the hours of traffic shaping so would not be much better off than what i am now after the 1st 5GB. Did find mine to be reliable though with only a few times the system went down.

What you pay for is what you get and if you get the service to suit your needs you're laughing all the way to the bank!

New customer deal broadband only £15 for 3 months and £20 a month after that, he has tv and phone.

yeah its for new customers :mad: you would of thought been a customer for over 5years would allow me to get that deal but obviously not. the total discount amount i get is, £14.50. phone £11, broadband £25, tv £0. i pay charges of £5 handling charge, £1.25 paper bill and £2 call bar totals £29.75. can anyone be kind enough to advise me on further discounts? as said, I've been customer for over 5 years, surely £25 for 10mb broadband is too much even though i'm recieving a little discount. can't they upgrade my speed for £25?

You aren't paying 25 pounds for the 10Mbit really, given that 25 + 11 would be 36GBP and you have the 14.50GBP discount off it, leaving your total bill for both internet and phone line at 21.50GBP.
You are actually paying 10.50GBP for the broadband assuming 11GBP for the phone. They aren't going to discount you any more on this nor should they upgrade your speed, it's a better deal than brand new customers get. They pay 15GBP for the L broadband line, then 11GBP for phone giving a total of 26GBP, somewhat more than your 21.50GBP for the same products.
I appreciate the confusion due to the way the billing works but the prices quoted on the website include discounts such as the 14.50 you are receiving now, except for a new customer it's a smaller discount than yours.
If you want further discounts go DD and get shot of the paper bills. It seems a bit odd that you aren't happy with what you are paying but pay over 25% more for no DD and a paper bill.
Either way 21.50GBP is a very good price for the services you are getting and you are indeed being rewarded for being a customer for 5 years with that 14.50GBP discount.
thanks for the reply mate. i carry on paying the way i am because cable now virgin, infact most companies are noted to overcharge which then i have to bust a gutt to get my money back.

No you don't, you just don't contact Virgin to do it :) - Direct Debit Guarantee (http://www.bacs.co.uk/bacs/businesses/directdebit/collecting/pages/customersrights.aspx).
Get monies back from bank and talk to Virgin to discuss what happened, not to get money back.
