I have recently bought a notebook and wish to connect to VM mobile broadband.
The main problem is that the OS on the notebook is Linux Ebunto and while VM say it will work on their system they do not support it and cannot advise me how to get it to connect. They supplied me with a USB mobile modem and although the machine says it has found the dongle I cant get on line.

It has 3 options to connect,CDMA,GPRS or 3G,none of which will connect

I'm no expert or even a midget on Linux Ebunto (or is it edubuntu?). But it'll surely need drivers like Windows would in order to make use of the USB and treat it as a modem port.

Do you have drivers or have I been stupid by not supposing that you've set all that up already?

I'm guessing it's a Huawei dongle?

If so, have a look at this search on the Huawei mobile broadband forum:

To be honest with all of you, I am a complete know nothing when it comes to any sort of wireless technology,my desktop is still run on steam.
VM did say that the dongle comes with all software pre loaded but at that time they were not aware that it was to be used with Linux and even if they had known it wouldn't have made any difference as they don't support it.
It is a HUAWEI E160 HSDPA USB stick
