I posted this in my install thread but thought I would post here too.

Had my 50mb install today, I'm only getting around 6mb speeds, although sometimes the speed when downloading (usenet) will jump up to max and then plumet straight down and stay there, very confused here and pretty dissapointed to be honest :(

Try cutting and pasting the figures all we need are the Downstream receive including the RxMER and the Upstream figures try it should work.

If you are getting over 40Mb then you are not doing to badly are you connected direct or wireless.

The Downstream power levels are fine how about the Upstream one.

You can try setting your Network card to Full Duplex

Network card set to 100/full duplex?

This setting should be changed under the device properties via Device manager.
1) Right click on "Computer" under the start menu and select "Properties".
2) Under the "Hardware" tab, Select and open "Device manager"
3) Click the plus sign next to "Network Adapters"
4) Right click on your NIC and go to Properties
5) Click on the "Configure" button. Choose the Advanced tab, and look for an item that mentions "Duplex", or "Link speed". Chances are it is set on
"Auto" or "Auto Negotiation".
6) In the "Value" drop down, choose the full duplex mode that applies to your link speed.

Well weird things are happening.

When downloading from usenet (using Astraweb) sometimes im getting 40mb + and sometimes I'm getting like 6mb.

But when I do the Virgin speed test you suggested its still showing in the 40 range so I don't know what to think unless Astraweb has gone very slow, tbh it was doing this sort of fluctuating last week as wel,l sometimes giving me full speed and then dropping off, I'm wondering whether this is a problem with usenet not Virgin.

Anything from the internet can fluctuate but the speedtest site is within the Virgin network and should give more stable results.

After a reboot of the PC I'm back to square one again, the Virgin speed tests are now painfully slow and doing exactly the same as usenet spiking straight up to around 40mb then dropping off to like 6mb :(

I spoke to tech just now, the chap said there ar eno problems he can see with my line or router, he got me to run CMD > NETSTAT -A which showed around 20 - 30 TCP connections which he has said is the reason its slow, he said this could be spyware etc. I'm running Windows 7 and this doesn't sound right to me.
