Had my broadband upgraded from 20mb to 50mb on the 16/11/09 and has been amazing up untill today. There seems to be a noticable lag between a click of a link and loading of a web page. Also download speeds jump around between 22-45mb. Doesnt seem to be stable anymore. Even on speedtest.net. Seems to be ok for a bit once i've unplugged the power and reconnected it again. Then goes back to normal.

As it stands your power levels are spot on so any issues must be either with your equipment or possibly the network, you can call the dedicated 50Mb support line after 0800 this morning on 0800 052 0431 and they can check the connection.

thanks moldova. Do you know if and when VM are gonna change up their DOCSIS 3.0 modems?

For now we are only using the VMNG300 modem that is Docsis 3 compliant as for a new modem in the wings the is nothing as yet.

There's some trials of the Motorola Surfboard 6120 (http://www.motorola.com/Business/US-EN/Business+Product+and+Services/Cable+Broadband/SURFboard+Modems+and+Gateways/Motorola+SURFboard+SB6120_US-EN) but no idea if anything's going to be done with that beastie.

The Ambit / Ubee Interactive UC10C035 (http://www.ubeeinteractive.com/index.php/products/product-overview/docsis_3.0_modem/) with a pretty looking case and slightly customised firmware is the current modem.

That Motorola Surfboard 6120 looks good even as standard.

That Ambit looks straight up nasty. Its a good thing that VM had the case re-designed.

btw 2 out of 5 blue lights have gone out on my modem but the internet still works. The Sync light and the power light works but the three in the middle thats gone off. Untill i unplug the power and plug it back in again.

Not too worried about looks but given the people in other countries getting shot of the Ambit / Ubee for a Motorola or Scientific Atlanta (Cisco) modem and getting better results even though they all have the same chipset it would appear that the Ambit is cheaper for a reason, even if Ambit were prepared to make it look like a miniature PS3... silly VM.

Looked up a few reviews on the Motorola Surfboard 6120 and they seem to love it.

Nothing messed up in the pathping according to my analysis.

crazyronnie

not even the 91% loss?

Sephiroth

not even the 91% loss?
Particularly the 91% loss. Every PATHPING shows a similar statistic on the "me side of the UBR" and actually nothing is lost in regard to any of your destinations in the path.

If you check out how ping tests work, you'd see that if you had 91% packet loss every time you "passed through" the private IP address then you'd not be able to ping anything on your path.

A lot of people don't understand this and a lot of time/worry goes into nothing. There's a good article on Pathping: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Using-Pathping.html

I am not a fan of pathping at all. I'd far rather see output of something like: ping -n 100 -l 1460 bbc.co.uk

Its what the tech guys on the newsgroup are telling me to do. They also say that getting speeds of 3.9MB is not deemed as unacceptable...WTF?? Im just gonna ring that number 0800 052 0431 which moldava gave and see what they can do.
