They could be classed as company confidential.

Why would anyone want to see the inside of a cable supply cabinet? I thought only people who try & steal cable services were interested in these cabinets. Arn`t they locked by the engineers?:erm:

Doesn't one of our members have an open cabinet as his avatar. Maybe chambohambo could get a peak that way. :)

I hate the idea of them open, not because people might "steal" services, but because inside my local one that's open, there are tags with my address on them on certain wires. If someone wanted to be a dick and cut off my phoneline, how easy would it be for them to read the same labels I see and just snip the wires! grrr

I really wish I had taken pics of the incredibly battered and mashed up cab I saw in Tooting last week.

It was a sight for sore eyes!

Talking of green Cabs, the one near us is so rotten you could kick a football through the holes in the doors.

Now that cant be good can it:)

Christ, most of the street cabs near me have no front cover, or the cover is hanging by a thread!

I have had problems with the VM Street Cabinet near my house being left open (presumably following "maintenance") on several occasions.

A casual glance inside reveals signage stating 415 volts. As I type, a large, grey coloured junction box inside is also open.

The cabinet is on one of only two access/egress routes to a local school which "entertains" approx 1600 kids.

Despite numerous telephone and e-mail requests, it has taken up to 3 weeks to get it locked again in the past.

Does anyone know who (if anyone) I can contact at Virgin Media who understands:

1) The seriousness of this issue and a potential dereliction of a Duty of Care to the General Public and
2) How to get these damned boxes locked again without such a rediculous delay.

Rant over.

I seriously doubt if they would.

They would probably threaten County Court action for future non-payment of my VM account tho!!

I have had a look around the ol' Interweb and find this to be not just a problem but almost an epedemic of "piggy-flu" proportion.

Seems a shame that we all appear to have got to the stage where we not only simply accept appauling standards of safety, which have potentially life threatening consequences, but we even joke about them?

To report any open doors try using this:

Thanks for the info Altis.

Unfortunately, "been there, done that". The usual reply each time: "we endeavour to reply within 3 days blah blah blah". A protracted e-mail conversation ensues. At some point, the door finally gets locked. VM apologises for "service below our usual standards" and we're back to square one.

Last time, I was given a direct telephone number for the Street Cabinet Dept. I used it (several times) and then got charged for these calls on my next VM bill, which arrived before the cabinet was eventually finally locked once more!!

This is the third time this has happened. I need to know if there is a contact within VM who is responsible for Street Cabinets.

The newsgroup pass it on to the correct people if you report it in either TV or Broadband groups

cab hotline can help, I stumbled on a chamber (pulling pit) which had collapsed in, leaving a 1foot pit in the pavement. Rang the cab hotline and reported it as 3hour SLA and in 3 hours John Henrys had filled it with gravel as a temporary solution and also booked in the repair.

Cab Hotline?
An SLA of 3hrs??
Evidently not a part of VM.
Who are they?
Can you provide any contact details please?

Thank you Jungleguy.

As it happens, I had to get VM out to look at an intermittent connectivity problem I'm having so took the opportunity to ask the nice VM engineer to lock the cabinet whilst he was here.

I'll keep the phone number for future reference tho.

If yoo come to Isleworth in Middlesex, you will see the inside of the green boxes, all the time, someone is always trying to get inside them, you report it, and they are still like it a week later.

Rob there usually are. Its just once a cab has been left open, they run away hence downtime on your services ;-)

is VM fair usage policy policy implemented by hamsters in the cabinet?
Are slow broadband connections due to lazy hamsters or tired hamsters?

Rumour has it that the slow connections are instigated by the Hamster Liberation Movement in it's quest for fair working conditions for all VM hamsters...... I mean employees.

Id say it was more to do with Lazy hamsters. But mainly you will find its both, tired and lazy hamsters, sometimes the hamsters just have to many jobs to do in its time slot! ;-)
