I have a problem with my Virgin Media supplied D-Link DIR 615.

Previous routers i've owned have always been switched on and very rarely turned off even if i'm out the house. The DIR615 is the same and is on 24-7.

The problem i have is that when i turn my computer, laptop, or xbox 360 on, about 9 times out of 10 they do not automatically connect to my router. even though all the lights are on on the router, indicating everything is working as it should be, i am unable to connect to it.

the only way i can get the pc/laptop/xbox to connect is to reboot the router (the modem doesn't get touched/rebooted)

i have had a replacement DIR615 sent out to me but this one does the exact same thing.

There's nothing in the settings of the router that i can see which might fix the issue, so i reckon it's probably something that firmware will need to fix, but the revision i have isn't even listed on the d-link website, and it's useless talking to VM themselves as their "technical support" department are absolutely useless and have told me in the past it was a problem with my modem(??!!!?!?!) and then a problem with the "cabinet outside my house"...........

does anyone know what the problem is, or how to fix it or where i can get a revised firmware for the 615, i don't even mind using a beta firmware if it's available???

My DIR-615 has been on 24/7 for the last 5 weeks since I got it, and I haven't had to reboot it once.

Are you devices set to automatically obtain an IP via DHCP? Do you have any static IPs set, or DHCP reservation on the router?

cheers for the reply matt

i've set the pc and the xbox static ip address's because i port forward to each of them.

the laptop is assigned whatever address is free via dhcp.

If you have set static IP's for all the machines on your network try turning the "automatically obtain an IP via DHCP" option in the router off.

moldova - the revision supplied by yourselves is D2, which isn't listed on the dlink website......must be some sort of VM branded firmware.

mick - my laptop gets an IP Address through DHCP, the PC and Xbox are given static addresses, so i can't turn this option off.
