View Full Version : WGR614v9 - wired connection OK but wireless not working

Hi folks,
I am trying to help a newbie although I don't know much about virgin cable internet myself (more familiar with ADSL over BT lines). End user has purchased a Netgear WGR614v9 from PC World because (she says) Virgin "did not supply wireless router". Having got another geeky chap to "configure it all"... the facts (she tells me) are;

Point 1: the cable modem connects to the WGR614v9 and then, with a network cable, to the laptop... WORKS OK, internet can be accessed.

Point 2: the cable modem connects to the WGR614v9 and then, with a WIRELESS connection, to the laptop... DOES NOT WORK, internet is not available. However, laptop does say "connected".

Looking at the WGR614v9... there is "no wireless security" at all - obviously stupid to run with no wireless security but could that have caused the problem with accessing the internet ? If not, what other settings could cause the problem ?

I am trying to avoid an on-site visit <sigh>.
