Hi all,
Up until a couple of weeks ago, Xnews was working fine on news.virginmedia.com, but since then, If I've tried to download a large binary, it has been riddled with CRC errors to the point of being unrepairable.

I've tried 2 different versions of Xnews on 2 different computers with the same results.

I installed Grabit and the same download worked fine ????

So is anyone having similar problems?, have Virgin changed something in the last few weeks?

Cheers, Ady

There are a considerable number of threads on virginmedia.support groups about corrupted binaries from their usenet servers. There may be some clues to be found there.

I use Xnews also, but with giganews as my main provider and have no problems.

The virginmedia Highwinds service seems flaky at best and often subject to long delays even reading text groups. If you're serious about usenet I'd suggest a proper paid service is the way to fix your problems.

I've had the same problem with grabit, it seems to happen when I use a newsgroup search like binsearch. I've found that if I go directly to the newsgroup the files are located in and use the nzb file there that it works.
