Hello all,

had 50mb service installed last week and its been a fairly inconsistant week :)

I use newsgroups (astraweb) on 20mb connection that would make out my line using 20 connections while it was maxed out web browsing was fine and it always went max speed in my newsgroup client.

Now i am on 50mb i see speeds knocking around 5.7MB/s in my newsgroup client but this isnt all the time. When it is maxed out web browsing is fine (just like when i had 20mb) but sometimes the speeds drop right down anywhere between 0.5MB/s and 1MB/s when it does this web browsing is a horrible experience so it seems something is going on every so often enough that i really notice it every time i use the PC..

below is info from the modem.

Your power levels are fine so any issue must be elsewhere either with your equipment or the network.

If you think it is a network issue the call the 50Mb support line tomorrow after 0800 on 0800 052 0431.

But...

On 50Mb, if you're maxing out your download, isn't your upload then screwed?

I often max out the upload (backup to elsewhere) and that does seem to render my connection utterly useless - so I cap myself to, typically, 100KiB up and all is fine.

My (ignorant) understanding of bandwidth use is that 10%-ish is needed for TCP/IP. Could someone please enlighten ;)

Dave

ps. <VM SUPPORT>Nope, haven't installed your anti-virus thingy, haven't got windoze updates or windoze firewall turned on, there is a good reason for all that - evil me then :)) </VM SUPPORT>
