Am I'm being slapped with a STM on this saturday? My modem stats are completely fine and these are my dl/ul speeds:

It's been like this at 1pm, 3pm, 4pm and 4.30pm.

I'm live in the south hampshire on XL BB, anyone else experiencing this?

Then you are, or were, very fortunate!

STM has always been 7 days a week. Until recently it wasn't possible to STM based on day of the week in any case.

How long will this STM haunt me? Checked my speed several times yesteday every hour until 2am and the speed was still the same.
This morning the speed still is:

I've always had 20Mbit speeds without any problems. Line issue?

It lasts 5 hours. You will know when its back to normal as your upload will shoot back up again and your download should be closer to 20Mbps.

5 hours? it has lasted me nearly 12 hours now. still waiting....

Sounds like you might have bigger issues then. Can you post your signal levels please?

Downstream is coming up on borderline, so you may need a tech to bring the level up a little bit. This could cause slow speeds.

great... phone india again then, huh?

PS! I've had downstream power levels down to -13 dBmV without any speed issues in the past ( first few months of my subscription this year, May-july 09)

That maybe so, but the limit is +/- 7dBmV for a reliable service, and coming close to those boundaries does cause issues, some worse than others depending on the service area. Some areas are tighter than others, and yours may be tighter than the recommended. It's better to get it checked out than ignore it, and find out that it really was the problem after investigating everything else :)

The closer to 0dBmV you can get, the better.

Be thankful its not 50Mbps you're on, where the limits seem to be even tighter ;)

well thank you very much for all you advice! I'll get right on it!.... after I've finnished my coffee... :-)

Milk and toast myself ;)

You may find its just a bad STM trigger (or its not reset), or there may be other issues. Tech support will be able to tell you for sure. If you can't get through to them on the phone, try the newsgroups instead, and a tech will help you out there.

For the newsgroup do I just post a new article and hope for answers?

I have to say im not sure how helpful looking at signal levels really is to be honest when diagnosing speed issues, when the techs came around to install my 50Mb, they looked at the level on their *highly sensitive* reader and said, hmm bit high, have you had any problems?

I hadnt had any problems for years, always full speed.

So if their highly sensitive equipment is showing high levels, but the connections works flawlessly, I cant see how helpful peoples readings from the cable modem are going to be.

Im not having a go, just putting a few facts across :)

Like I said, it varies by area. You will find a lot of people having speed issues because of bad signal levels on the forum ;) Low/High signal levels don't always affect everyone in the same way, but its a general consideration when looking, and its the easiest thing to try. Second is a modem swap, third is an area check to see if anyone else is having the same problem. It's not easy, so you do have to start somewhere. :)
