I gave Virgin a month's notice to disconnect my broadband, as I'm moving at some point. But the date they gave me was 31st August...a Bank Holiday, of course. Plus I forgot and wasn't in on the day!
There was no notification, card, whatever, stating they'd been, so I don't know if they came at all. However, for various reasons I'm not currently staying at my home address, so I'm wondering: what's involved in disconnecting the broadband? Would it be enough if I simply sent them the modem via recorded delivery?
No-one visits to disconnect the service.
As for the modem, I would hang onto it for a bit. If they want it back you will get a letter shortly

Oh, right, thanks. That's one less thing to worry about. :)
Won't they want it back, though?
They never used to ask no, but that is changing

yes for the stb but not the modems, i got the email last mth ill be glad when the jiffy bag thig stops it is not a good service and half the time doesnt get sent out. the sooner they get the new codes sorted the better.
I have still got 2 modems that Sky sent me when I first went with them! (it was a deal they gave me when we went to them for our TV package) and what a mistake that was:td:
Anyway, I have Emailed and phoned them, but they are still here after 2 months, no doubt they will come from them some time?
I'm just glad to be back with Virgin again;)

Fine by me; will they email, or send a letter?
A letter as far as I am aware

Hmm, interesting. If VM are asking for modems/stb's/etc back (which is a good thing), then I hope they are sending pre-paid mailing containers out too. I just had to ship a small, light jacket to Newcastle to be repaired and the postage cost me £28. Its a damn sight lighter than a packed up stb, so I'd imagine if we had to pay the postal costs to return a STB, it'd be a pretty "Ouch" factor.
then I hope they are sending pre-paid mailing containers out too.Yes they do
