Thinkbroadband is the best choice - this is official from VM. It's the only speed test apart from their own internal one that they 'certify' as being capable of 50Mbit performance. It uses large test files and measures average rather than peak speeds.

The tester at the top of the page is a quick tester and should be used with caution, it is hosted on free and underpowered ISP web space. It's not appropriate for 50Mbps services.
If you wish to try a server in Europe give http://www.upc.nl/internet/snel_internet/speedtest/ a go, it's very well connected.
Maidenhead is hopelessly underpowered, indeed most of speedtest.net's servers should be considered suspect.

If you are using speedtest.net try using the birmingham server as that has given me a good download speed, or just try different servers. These are also alright for testing you download speed. Also make sure your OS or Anti Virus aint updating.
