Hi,

I had 20 meg and downgraded to 10 meg.

I have been away from my rents address for months so i can't say how long the issue has been going on.

Basically if i am downloading something at full pelt 1.25mb/s sometimes webpages load sometimes they don't by this i mean they either load slowly or give up and send a time out message.

On my uni 8 meg adsl nildram line this didn't happen but virgin seems to be cutting out with timeout issues intermittently and i am sure it never did this before.

I have a ntl cable modem 250 connected to the free white netgear vm router.

Thanks for your help!

Your connection to a web server requires 2-way traffic. For every piece of data that is sent to you your web browser will send back a confirmation that the data has been received properly and that the next piece can be sent.

Also, the initialisation of the connection in the first place requires the exchange of various pieces of data.

If you're hammering your download you will also probably be swamping your upload with return packets.

You need to leave some bandwidth free in both directions otherwise, as you're finding out, things just don't work properly.

I've got to agree with Rob M based on your "fult pelt" remark. I can reproduce what you report.

Your modem report shows that it is in a proper nominal state. This you would need to know for peace of mind.

This happens on my ADSL2+ line as well - so I can only assume that at your university either transmission conditions weren't as per at home (i.e the pipe from the uni) or you weren't doing the same stuff.
