I am not experiencing any major disconnections or lack of service, except every so often I will launch IE and it will sit there trying to load Google, then give up after 30 seconds.

Could the above be the cause?

Also, with such high levels, I assume a tech visit?

Also, with these levels, could this interfere with the picture quality (i.e. not as sharp as usual, even the HD channels) on my TV being broadcast from the V Box?

Downstream is too high, upstream is fine. You need a tech out to get the downstream as close to 0dBmV as possible. 9/10 is too high, the limits are +/- 6dBmV if I remember rightly.

Upstream is a little high

As I mentioned on an earlier post, which I guess you didn't read, upstream being higher or lower isn't an issue unless it goes out of tolerance or is very close to them. Upstream transmit power is a function of how far a customer is away from the nearest amplifier, how their local network is lined up in terms of return path amplification, and even things like which type of drop cable is used and how many splits there are. In short it's the sum of the total attenuation and amplification on the netowrk.

Bottom line so long as upstream transmit isn't too close to tolerance levels it's neither high nor low but is just right in order to achieve the target upstream receive power at the CMTS. It's a dynamic transmit power not static like downstream so will vary from modem to modem, even if two modems are next door to one another they can have different powers.

Uncorrectable codewords are not good and can cause pixellation with digital channels, however signal strength being too high will cause pixellation and other artifacts, it doesn't cause 'blurring'. It will also cause perceived 'stalls' on the internet service.

@Broadbandings. When I meant not as sharp, I meant the picture has pixelation rather than blurring or fuzziness.

Sounds to me that what you just mentioned in terms of 'bad things' is what I am getting.

I've had an engineer out last weekend because of the pixelation on the TV and he told me everything was fine (he did some 'tests') and that the next time an engineer comes out and there is no fault, we will be charged £45, which he waived this time round!

Can't remember off hand but you can check power levels going into your STB, uncorrectable and correctable errors, BER, etc, via a diagnostic menu.

Does sound and look a lot like power levels are too high and its' causing errors on both TV and HSI though, and if it sounds and looks like it then usually...
