New poster here .. mainly because I never had probs before now ;) Go easy on me :)
I have been having really intermittent service for that last 4 or 5 days and VM know it, when I rang 150 on 3 occasions I selected options 3,2,3 and got a recorded message that said no broadband in TN4 (my postcode) ... so I just waited for it to come back, it was gone all day once (9+ hours) :(
But it went again today, and this time there was no message about TN4 being affected. I rebooted my modem and router several times (sometimes hours apart). I tried connecting my laptop directly to the modem and about 1 time in 4 or 5 times I will get broadband again, a reboot of laptop or modem will lose broadband again.
I even tried a new router (Linksys WRT610N) and generally wasted loads of time when I should have been working. My old router is a cheap Dlink Dir-301 and I am hardwired to it (its what I am using while faultfinding). Its been working fine for about 18 months. The modem is a scientific atlanta jobby.
The symptoms are the same as when it went the last few times; I can connect to 192.168.100.1 through the router and see the power levels etc on the modem, and I can also see the IP address it is showing to the router and confirm that the router is getting the right DNS and modem is getting an IP from VM etc. Everything is showing as operational etc and looks just like what it shows when everything is working fine. EXCEPT I cannot ping anything or load web pages, basically I cannot see past the modem.....
The power levels are as follows:
Power Level 15.6 dBmV
Signal to Noise Ratio 40.8 dB
Power Level 41.5 dBmV
I am no expert but according to one of the stickies that 15.6dBmV is out of range (should be less than 15?)
Anyway, anyone seen this before, whats the likely prognosis?
