Can anyone help shed light on this? My folks are moving into a new block of flats. The developer has told them that the flats have a "central VM box" which distributes the relevant service to each flat and that the TV will just plug into a coax type socket in the wall once the service has been enabled by Virgin. Does anyone have any knowledge of such a system, because Virgin Customer Services insist that a full installation plus set-top box is required and they cannot schedule this for a couple of weeks? Does the system have a name/reference that Virgin Customer Services would recognise? Thanks

What area are you in and where are the flats .There might be someone who works for VM who knows the set up in the area you are talking about :)

Left them 2 yrs ago, normally the main cable will come into the basement onto a tap plate 10 - 50 outlets. The cables will then be routed through the risers into the flat. An engineer will need to come out to identify, connect and test the signal of the cable that goes to that flat.

Thanks 'Surfer', this is how I imagined it might work, but very good to get confirmation from someone with hands-on experience. Would Virgin Sales recognise the term 'basement tap plate' or is there some trade name for this equipment?

the VM computer says your property has never had cable, so a 2 man crew will need to be booked. Included in that is a pulling crew to pull the cable to the flat.

Sounds like you recon the cables have already been pulled. In which case they don't need to send a 2 man crew.

Now if you do get a 1 man crew, and your wrong, you'll have to wait even longer than you are waiting now to get installed.
