Hi there,

Since Monday, my internet kept dropping every few hours and today it's been more like every 10 minutes. To get it back on, I unplugged the modem and waited 30 seconds then plugged it back in and it'll work again. Rang VM and they did a test on the modem and said it was fine and blamed it on my computer, nice. I disabled my router and plugged the modem straight to my computer and the connection dropped again. Did the same with a different computer and it still dropped. So I'm sure it's a modem problem but they won't replace/send a technician out as they're adament it's fine. I'm on 20mb and I think the modem is an ambit 255. Here are my stats thingys:

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 60
Downstream Frequency : 322750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : -1.2 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 40.8 dB

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 3
Upstream Frequency : 45800000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QAM16
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 61.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Upstream transmit Power Level : 61.0 dBmV

is likely to be the problem - you will probably need a tech visit to get that sorted out.

Your upstream power level of 61.0 is far to high, you need to phone Virgin for a tech visit.

What do I say to them then? Coz they are so adament that there is nothing wrong with it. Cheers guys.

My upstream power level is 61.0dbmv and I'm experiencing slow speeds and dropouts can you book a technician please?
They say it's all fine, ask them to confer with 2nd line as 61 IS too high.

Agreed very unlucky.
Scotland is the best technical center.

They're not allowing a technician to come out as they can't see any fault from their tests, I've rang them about 5 times now and I'm slowly losing my rag! Argh!

Treble99 you have the right to DEMAND a technician.
An upstream power level of 61.0dbmv is unacceptable, I'd book a tech for you unfortunately I'm not back in work until Tuesday by which time you could have had a visit already.
Are you ex-ntl or ex-telewest?
