OK, it looks as though my camping idea may well have bitten the bullet (reasons out of my control) so now I need to find somewhere else to go for a few days next week.

Has anyone got recommendations for decent bunkhouses?

I'm not really bothered where it is just need a few days away :)

Stayed here:

But you need a responsible adult with you, perhaps Gary L will volunteer? :erm:

There's a nice camping barn at Hudscales near Hesket Newmarket at the top end of the lakes. Like camping only it's inside an old farm building so take a sleeping bag and cooker IIRC. Great pub in Hesket Newmarket (where you may well see Sir Chris Bonnington) but it's a bit of a walk back!

There's another really nice one at Bent's Farm near Newbiggin on Lune, north of the Howgills. Beautiful barn, not so basic inside, very remote, lovely countryside.

Biatch, come up to Cumbria, The Eden Valley, the most undiscovered beautiful area in our lovely country!

How many in your party?? Have a lovely little house you can have.

If you fetch Gary L with you, I so want to meet him! ;)

Sounds idyllic! There's just two of us and possibly a dog if allowed. Both in need of mega chilling out for a few days :)

Have pm'd you ;)

Hmm was about to offer my spare room up but don't do dogs :-(

Thanks Handyman but Lucy has sorted us out with a lovely little place she's got. We're leaving the dog at home anyway as its too nice to take him there. This way we can do as we please and if we fancy having a little drink in the local pub we're not restricted :)

Yup, pick-up/drop off the GF there every week. I'm about 6 miles away. Cracking little village and I'm 30 seconds from the local pub :-)

Some faster broadband and I'd never leave.

You have missed the crazy week, when the travellers have the horse fair there.
It is a acquired experience!

You must be near Appleby then. I'm lucky not to be on a route that the travvelers come down. I used to Live in Kirkby Lonsdale and that was back in the run up to the fair.

I do not like the horse fair at all, husband does.
I do like all the old caravans though.

The travellers are good folk, most of them, and it is like their assembly place once a year. Its the rubbish that they leave I object to!

Well keep the noise down then. I don't want to hear you having fun without me being there :)
