Installed Friday, using supplied modem and router (Netgear)

All speed tests I do show around 48-51mbs.

Yet my downloads never seem to get above 3.* mbs

Any ideas?

Details:
Modem - Ambit E08C015.01
Router - Netgear WNR2000 (cabled not wifi)
OS - Windows 7RC

If you need any details from 192.168.100.1 let me know.

1) go to http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/ and download a big file from there. downloads largely depend on the quality of the server your downloading from (the one above is virgins own).

2) get a download manager and download the same files above (download accelerator plus or downthemall are great).

Also you wont get 5mb down for torrents etc, bit torrent is totally different, so 5mb can only be expected from normal ftp downloads.

Just tried the same download from the same place, alternating my Antivirus on and off.

AV on - 3.6mbs
AV off - 6.2mbs

Not advising you turn your AV off, my guess it that the AV cannot keep up with the masses of data coming down. Maybe having a quadcore system with lots of RAM would help the situation.

What antivirus are you using deviant?
It may help others to know if they are having symptoms such as yours .

It was with Avira (free) but i've also read people having a similar issue with Kaspersky.
